Ford to invest $50 million in Chicago plant for assembling hybrid electric SUVs

The plant, which currently modifies vehicles for police use, will be upgraded and the existing work will be transferred to a nearby facility. 450 jobs will be created by this move.

In a statement Ford Motor Co said, it would be investing $50 million to upgrade a Chicago plant in order to partially assemble hybrid electric SUVs and vehicles for police use.

The move will see the creation of 450 jobs.

The plant, which currently modifies vehicles for police use, will be upgraded and the existing work will be transferred to a nearby facility.

After retooling, Ford will start a new production line for partially assembling hybrid versions of the Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle and the luxury Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring SUV. It will also partially assemble the Police Interceptor SUV.
