Airbus close to signing multi billion dollar deal with Air France

The potential deal will see Air France replacing its ageing medium haul aircraft.

According to industry sources, Airbus is close to signing a deal worth billions of dollars for the sale of dozens of A320neo-family and smaller A220 aircraft to Air France.

The development comes in the wake of Air France wanting to renew its medium-haul fleet.

The potential deal could include as many as 50-70 A220 jets, which will replace Air France’s aging A318 and A319 aircraft of around 50 aircraft.

“Air France is also expected to pick the A320neo family to replace approximately 40 earlier versions of the Airbus A320 that are up to 18 years old”, said a source.

Air France-KLM’s spokeswoman said, “Air France is pursuing work on its medium-haul fleet renewal. No decision has been taken at this stage.”

When asked to respond to requests for comment, Airbus declined comment.
