The clincher to May’s deal is Attorney General Geoffrey Cox’s opinion on the legal tenability of the new assurances.
On Tuesday, Britain’s former Brexit Secretary David Davis said, British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit proposal could be acceptable once the government’s top lawyer said the new assurances would be legally maintainable.
“All those things together, make this just about, just about acceptable to me but it depends very, very heavily on a robust, clear response from (Attorney General Geoffrey) Cox,” said Davis to Talk Radio.
“If Geoffrey Cox is at all equivocal about it then I think it will fall again.”
