Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis has stated, it has appointed Susanne Schaffert, a veteran, as the head of its oncology business. She will assume the position from January 1, 2019.
Schaffert will be replacing Liz Barrett who will be stepping down to return to the U.S.
Schaffert has given 20 years to Novartis and has been part of its global oncology leadership team since 2013.
She will report to Vas Narasimhan, Novartis’ Chief Executive and join its executive committee
Barrett, a U.S. citizen who has headed the unit since February 2018, said she had accepted the role of CEO of a U.S. biotech firm; since her family was unable to relocate to Basel, where Novartis’ oncology headquarters are based, she will be moving to the United States.
