As a result of an improvement in diplomatic and economic relations between Ankara and Washington, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump concerning Turkey’s state-owned bank Halkbank.
Following an announcement by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan that he has had talks regarding state-owned Halkbank with his U.S. counterpart, shares of the bank jumped by 6.89% to 7.45 lira.
Although Erdogan gave few details surrounding actual discussions, his comments come at a time when there is growing indication from both, Ankara and Washington that they are ready to diplomatic and economic ties, which had plunged earlier this year over a host of issues including the conviction of a Halkbank executive for helping Iran evade U.S. sanctions.
