The news report by South Korea’s Joongang Ilbo newspaper follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Seoul.
On Thursday, a South Korean newspaper reported that the country plans on buying an additional 20 F-35A stealth fighter aircrafts from the US.
The report comes within a short span of time following the visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to Seoul wherein he had announced that South Korea would be purchasing billions of dollars in new military equipment.
South Korea’s Joongang Ilbo newspaper reported citing multiple sources within the government as saying the country’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration has established a process for procuring 20 more additional aircrafts.
In 2014, South Korea had formally announced a plan on purchasing 40 F-35As stealth fighter aircrafts from Lockheed Martin a U.S. defense contractor.
