As per KrebsOnSecurity this could be related to the the sale of credit & debit card numbers on the dark web.

Sonic Corp, a U.S. fast food chain operator has disclosed that it has detected unusual credit card related activity regarding at its drive-in outlets.

Earlier this week, Sonic’s credit card processor informed the company of the unusual activity, which could have affected an unknown number of its payment systems.

KrebsOnSecurity was the first to report that the development could potentially be related to the millions of credit and debit numbers that have been stolen and are being sold in underground exchanges.
