Brazilian government likely to sell a portion of its stake in Eletrobras

This has the potential to open up Brazil’s power sector to private players.

As per a Brazilian government source, the Brazilian government’s stake along with other state entities in Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras SA, a power holding company, could be as high as $3.8 billion.

The source preferred the cover of anonymity given the sensitivity of the matter.

Brazil’s Mines and Energy Ministry is likely to propose to Brazilian President Michel Temer to sell the government stake in Eletrobras.
