Audi sees potential for 1 diesel model in its product mix in the U.S.

Discounting fears that the sale of its diesel cars will not hit levels before the emission scandal, Audi opines that there could still be a place for a diesel model in its product mix in the United States, since after all, diesel is a technology bridge.

Volkswagen’s luxury brand, Audi sees the potential for one diesel model in its product mix in the U.S., despite the diesel emission scandal that has embroiled its parent, VW.

“Once we hopefully get past everything, I see an opportunity for potentially, probably to offer it on one model, and that model would probably be the Q7 SUV,” said Scott Keogh, President of Audi America.

“It’s the one model that makes the most sense.”

He went on to add, diesel was “always a bridge technology” before emission standards got progressively more refined.

The future of Audi was in electric, said Keogh. Battery electric vehicles are projected to make up 25% to 30% of its product mix by 2025.

Audi will launch its first electric SUV in 2018.

In the wake of the diesel emission scandal, as per the CEO of Volkswagen of America, Hinrich Woebcken, it doesn’t expect the sale of its diesel vehicles to hit previous sales records before the emission scandal, in the United States.

“Our prediction is that we will not come back with diesel in the same magnitude we had before,” said Woebcken.
