UAE’s Dubai Aerospace finances Iran’s purchase of 17 jets from Airbus

With its economy being isolated for so long, business deals with Iran has immense potential.

According to sources familiar with this move, Iran has broken the logjam in its efforts to buy aircrafts from Airbus. It has reached a deal with a foreign leasing company which will help it finance the purchase of 17 jets from Airbus, following the lifting of U.S. led sanctions.

The deal is significant since it signals the first crossing of a hurdle by Iran with it securing the financing of its first tranche of jets. This is despite uncertainties over the financing and political opposition from the United States. Sources have however cautioned against excessive optimism since the months ahead could potentially throw up some new hurdles.

Although Iranian officials have declined to name the lessor, industry sources have however revealed that Iran was in advanced talks with UAE’s Dubai Aerospace to help it finance this purchase.

“We have a deal to finance the first 17 aircraft,” said a senior Iranian official without elaborating.

When requested to comment on this matter, both Dubai Aerospace and Airbus declined comment.
