Samsung Electronics to be sole manufacturer of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 chips

Although the value for this sole manufacturing deal has not been disclosed, Samsung was the sole manufacturer of Qualcomm’s 820 chips. Industry analysts had pegged the deal at more than $1 billion. The 830 chip will be featured in Samsung’s upcoming update to its Galaxy S series due in 2017.

South Korea’s Electronic Times has reported citing unnamed sources that the manufacturing of Qualcomm Inc.’s next high-end Snapdragon chip will be solely given to Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 chip will be manufactured by Samsung using 10 10-nanometre production technology. According to Electronic Times, Samsung has agreed to use the Snapdragon 830 chip in the forthcoming update to its Galaxy S line of smartphones, which are to be launched in 2017.

Earlier this year in January, Samsung has reported that it was the sole manufacturer of the Snapdragon 820 chips, a deal valued by industry analysts at more than $1 billion.

While Samsung did not immediately respond to requests for comments, Qualcomm could not be immediately reached for comments.
