Bild am Sonntag reports suspension of VW’s Audi R&D head

Heads are beginning to roll as VW negotiates its exit from the diesel emission scandal.

German newspaper Bild am Sonntag has reported citing sources familiar with the matter at hand, Audi’s head of development will be suspended following the investigation in Volkswagen’s diesel emission scandal.

Investigations by Jones Day have revealed that an Audi board member was in the know of the installation of the cheating software in the 3.0 liter diesel engines and had given a false promise under oath.

Furthermore, the newspaper stated that Knirsch has already been told to clear his desk.

Earlier, Audi had admitted that its 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine was fitted with emissions-control software.

Spokesmen for Audi’s works council, Audi and Volkswagen have declined to comment.

Only last year, Knirsch, who used to earlier head Audi’s engine development, had replaced Ulrich Hackenberg, as the top engineer at Audi and the VW group.

Hackenberg has quit the auto manufacturer after he was suspended with other executive members who were in the centre of the scandal, since they were involved in the development of VW’s engine.
