With Apple’s iPhone 7 out, the opportunity cost in lost sales is massive for Samsung. Unless its engineers can fix the root of its fire-catching issue, the stopping of ads is likely to spill to other regions too.
According to a source who is familiar with the matter at hand, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has decided to stop running advertisements for its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in South Korea. Once it begins selling the smartphone, advertisements will re-commence.
However, the source clarified that advertisements that have already been paid for, will be shown till they run out of their respective contracts. Advertisement on the TV for Samsung’s smartphone should end in South Korea later this week.
The source preferred the cover of anonymity since he was not authorised to speak to the media.
When asked to respond to requests for comments, Samsung’s spokeswoman declined to comment.
