Intel acquires Nervana Systems

The acquisition will help Intel bolster the deep learning performance of its Xeon chipset.

Intel has disclosed its intentions of acquiring Nervana Systems, a San Diego, California based company that specializes in artificial intelligence.

The acquisition will bolster Intel’s deep learning performance of its Xeon and Xeion Phi processors. Intel is the world’s biggest chip manufacturer.

Intel has not disclosed the terms of the deal.

Investors in Nervana Systems include CME Ventures, Global Playground, Allen & Co, Lux Capital and AME Cloud Ventures.

Allen & Co LLC is the exclusive financial adviser to Nervana in the deal.
