Verizon acquires Yahoo for $5 billion

The deal is set to be announced before NYSE opens for trading today.

According to sources familiar with the matter at hand, Verizon Communications Inc. is set to acquire Yahoo Inc. for about $5 billion.

Sources have further revealed that the announcement of this deal will be further revealed before trading starts in New York.

As and when this deal materialises, it could end the uncertainty surrounding Yahoo’s future.

When asked to respond to requests for comments, both, Verizon and Yahoo declined to comment.

The deal could boost Verizon’s AOL internet business, which it acquired last year for $4.4 billion. Revenues generated by the AOL acquisition could further be boosted by Yahoo’s advertising technology tools and other assets, including its real estate, mail, messenger and search.
