Microsoft set to launch VR headset & Xbox One S in October

You are right, the ‘S’ is for slim. It will also launch its new VR headset during the holiday season.

In what could make gaming a lot more fun, Microsoft Corp has unveiled its vision of the next generation ultra-high resolution gaming and virtual reality in the form of a thinner Xbox One console and a virtual reality headset.

Nicknamed as ‘Project Scorpio’, the respective hardware will be made available to available to consumers during the holiday season next year. Project Scorpio aims to provide 4K gaming as well as rich virtual reality experiences.

The new console will be backward compatible with earlier Xbox One games and accessories. Microsoft has yet to unveil the pricing for these gadgets.

Incidentally, Sony has said that it will launch its virtual reality headset for its console, the PlayStation, sometime in mid-October. During the launch expect new games for the consoles including, the hugely awaited Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Spider-Man and God of War.

Last year, Microsoft had launched its partnership with virtual reality headset pioneer, Oculus Rift, which made it possible to port existing Xbox One games to Oculus’ virtual reality platform.

The new Xbox console, the Xbox One S(lim), will essentially be an update version of the Xbox One console, which Microsoft launched in 2013. The updated version will feature the playback of 4K videos, which is 4 times the resolution of full HD.

Microsoft has disclosed that the Xbox One S will be available in August with the base model priced at $299.

Microsoft also plans on unveiling new games for the console during its launch conference, including Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4.

Microsoft has also recently introduced the Xbox Play Anywhere, which, as its name suggests, allows consumers to buy any platform specific game and allows them to play on any either Windows 10 PCs or one Xbox One consoles.
