After the leak, Panama has come increasingly under international scrutiny with countries wanting increased cooperation and transparency.

In the wake of the leak of the Panama Papers, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has spoken at length with Juan Carlos, Panama’s President via phone, as per a spokesman for the government of Germany.

“This had been agreed in advance. Transparency and tax cooperation were important themes during this phone call,” said Steffen Seibert at a government news conference.
